In Memory: Bettie J. Petry

Bettie J. Petty, 71, of Council Bluffs, died August 9 at IHS Community Care South.

Mrs. Petty was born August 17, 1930, in Mondamin to Homer Wood and Anna Hathaway.

She was a ward clerk at Mercy Hospital for 24 years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of First Christian Church where she was baptized.

Mrs. Petry was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, on August 26, 1989.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Tiarks and husband, Dale, of McClelland and Debbie Borden and husband, Jeff, of Council Bluffs; two sons, Gary and wife, Sandy, of LaVista, Nebraska, and William E. "Bill" Jr., of Portland, Oregon; three sisters, her twin sister Bonnie Petry and Virginia Dofner and husband, Emmett, both of Council Bluffs, and Ann Collison of Onawa; 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Visitation with the family was held Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Meyer Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral was held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Marvin Arnpriester, Broadway United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Branson Cemetery in Loveland.
