In Memory: Donald B. Magnussen

Donald B. Magnussen, 76, of Council Bluffs died August 7 at Indian Hills Nursing Center after an extended illness.

He was born June 6, 1925, in Underwood to Carl E. and Esther (Bondo) Magnussen and was a graduate of Beebeetown High School. Mr. Magnussen served in the U.S. Navy during World War II onboard the USS Iowa. He was a diesel mechanic for Fehrs Tractor, retiring in 1986. He also operated the D.O. Car Wash until selling it in 1997. He was a member of Hazel Dell United Methodist Church.

Mr. Magnussen was preceded in death by his first wife. Olive, in 1995.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie (Nixon); three daughters, Donna Spratt, Karla Riso and husband, Stephen, both of Council Bluffs, and Carol Adkins and husband, Martin, of Knoxville; two step daughters, Dianne Jacobsen and husband, Gordon, and Janice Gillespie, both of Council Bluffs; three sisters, Frances Bracker of Neola, Arlene Christensen and husband, Kenneth, of Underwood and Elvera Beam and husband, Joe, of Malvern; one brother, Vernon, and wife, Donna, of Council Bluffs; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; four great step grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family was held at Cutler Chapel. Funeral was held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Scott Bonestroo, of Fulton, Illinois, husband of one of Mr. Magnussen's grandchildren, officiating. Burial was in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Boomer Township near Neola followed by lunch at the church.

Memorials may be offered to Hazel Dell United Methodist Church.
Spencer described Clayton as "an awesome guitar player" and indicated that he and his family really enjoyed the concert.
