In Memory: Timothy Jacobs

Timothy J. "Tim", 42, of Iowa City, formerly of Harlan and Minden area, died April 22 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from complications of a virus following a bone marrow transplant for the treatment of lymphoma.

Memorial services were held Wednesday at the Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service at Iowa City. Rev. Dee Lundberg, Faith United Church of Christ officiated the memorial service. Graveside services were held later in the day at the Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Timothy Jacobs Memorial Fund, c/o Lensing Funeral Home, Iowa City.

Timothy J. Jacobs was born November 4, 1948 in Had an, Iowa, the son of LaVern W. and Julia Maxine Hartman Jacobs. He attended St. Michael's Grade School and graduated in 1977 from TriCenter High School.

He was known for his artistic contributions throughout his school years. He attended City College in San Francisco, California, majoring in-film studies. In 1987 he graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in nursing. He was employed as a registered nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care and in Post Anesthesia Recovery Units at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.

He particularly enjoyed photography, computer graphics, illustrating children's books, music, film, and gardening, notably, day lilies. He was a quilter and proficient at needlework, making many quilts, for Children's Miracle Network as well as many others.

Timothy is survived by his friend and life partner, Michael Safranek of Iowa City; his mother, Maxine Jacobs Nielsen of Charlottesville, VA; ten brothers and sisters, Jill Thomas and her husband, Dave of Palmyra, VA, Diane Jacobs-Malina and her husband, Bruce Malina of Omaha, NE, Tom Jacobs and his wife, Therese of Harlan, Iowa, Robert Jacobs and his wile, Denise of Omaha, Patrick Jacob, of Harlan, Lisa McCusker and her husband, David of San Jose, CA, Cindy Brouse and her husband, David of Lee's Summit, MO, LuAnn Robinson and her husband, Terry of Iowa City, Phil Nielsen of Council Bluffs, Roger Nielsen of Marion, Iowa; five nephews and four nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, LaVern; stepfather, James Nielsen; and brother, Dan Jacobs.
