In Memory: Hadley J. Sutton Jr.

Graveside service for burial of ashes for Hadley James Sutton Jr., 72, of Sidney was held Saturday in the Sidney Cemetery with the Rev. Faye Fedlam of Sidney First Presbyterian Church officiating.

Mr. Sutton died April 8 at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg after a brief illness.

He was born July 16, 1928, in Hamburg to Hadley J. and Dora M. (Rogers) Sutton. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He served as mayor of Sidney fur four terms, served on the Sidney Rodeo Board for 24 years and was a past chairman. He was a deputy U.S. marshal for the Southwest Iowa District for 13 years. He started Sutton Sales and Service in Sidney, a machinery and implement dealership and small engine repair business, in 1956. He was a 50 year Mason with Nishnabotany Lodge No. 153, A.F. & A.M., and was a member of Williams Jobe Gibson American Legion Post No. 128 in Sidney.

Mr. Sutton and his wife, Virginia (Harpole), were married April 10, 1947.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Linda Hilligas and husband, Bob, of Honey Creek and Pam Sutton Gibson of Lincoln, Nebraska; a sister, Suzanne Simmons, and husband, Don, of Thurman; a brother, Robert, and wife, Ila, of Olin; three granddaughters, nieces and nephews and an aunt.

Crawford Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney was in charge of arrangements.

A memorial fund has been established.
