In Memory: Fred Dobernecker

Fred Dobernecker Jr. 93, died December 23, 2001 a Northcrest Nursing and Rehab Center in Council Bluffs.

Fred was born in Pottawattamie County, Iowa on May 7, 1908. He was the son of Fred and Alvina Schneckloth Dobernecker, Sr. The family lived on many farms in the Minden, Neola and Shelby areas. He attended country school near many of those farms until his father needed his help.

Fred worked on the farm with his parents for many years. After wards he was a farmhand for many farmers in the area. He had great experience with farm work. He had grown up milking cows and helping with livestock.

He worked in the fields from sun up until sun down and many hours longer. He had worked between the Weston, Iowa and the Harlan, Iowa areas. He was known in that distance as a good and an experienced man being very good help with the farming.

He enjoyed playing cards, 4 points pitch being his favorite game.

He brought a home in Minden and moved there in the 1970’s. He worked for a short time at the Minden Lumber Company in Minden. When his health became poor he moved to Northcreast Nursing and Rehab Center in Council Bluffs eight years ago.

Fred was preceded in death by four brothers; Orville, Elmer, Lester and Harold and two sisters; Edna Miers and Viola Grap.

Survivors include a sister; Helen Parr of Persia.

Services were held Thursday, December 27 at 1:30 P.M. at the Knutson Funeral Chapel with Pastor Denny Peterson officiating. Burial was in the Minden Cemetery.
