Anna Marie Bauer 1871-1945

Anna Marie Bauer, a daughter of Reamer Maassen and his wife Marie Meier, was born on September 21, 1871 near Moline, Illinois and in early childhood came with her parents to Shelby county. On February 26, `892 she was married to John Bauer which union bore 2 sons and 4 daughters.

Mr. and Mrs. Bauer farmed in Shelby county until 1910 when they moved to their home on Frost Avenue. The father remained with his family only a year in Avoca for he was called in death on March 7, 1911. Mrs. Bauer continued to make her home in Avoca and reared her family.

There remain to mourn her passing four daughters: Ella, Mrs. Harry Peters; Lula, Mrs. Otto Peters; Carol Lavern, Mrs. Otto Jacobsen; Evelyn, Mrs. Harry Fennern of Vinton, Iowa, and one son, Elmer, also three sisters: Mrs. Hugo Handorf of Riverside, California, Mrs. Amelia Peters of San Diego, California, Mrs. Chris Olsen of Avoca; two brothers, Dr. Frank Maassen of Harlan and Julius Maassen of Harlan, 21 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.

There have preceded her in death besides her husband also a son, Ellis, in early childhood due to scarlet fever, one sister, Mrs. Herman Scheel and two brothers, John and Henry Maassen.

Mrs. Bauer has not been in the best of health for some time and several weeks ago was taken to the hospital but did not recover. She was called in death last Wednesday afternoon after having reached the age of 73 years, 3 months, and 25 days.
