Mrs. Katherine Rassmussen 1882-1944

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 1 at the English Lutheran church for Katherine Rassmussen who passed away at her home on Thursday, June 29 after a lingering illness. The Rev. Thorvald Hansen officiated at the services. Burial was held at the Graceland cemetery.

Mrs. Rassmussen was born July 4, 1882 in the town of Nyrup, Denmark. She attended the schools in the community of her birth and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the church at Gislum, Denmark. She came to America when she was 20 and made her home here with a sister, Mrs. Mortensen. At the age of 22, she was united in marriage to Pete Rassmussen at Harlan, Iowa. Shortly after their marriage they made their home in Avoca and have since that time lived in this vicinity. In recent years, Mrs. Rassmussen has been ill and confined to her home most of the time.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three children: Edna, a Navy nurse stationed at Norman, Oklahoma, Earl and harry of Avoca. Another daughter, Margaret, died in her youth. The departed was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers. One brother, Casper Christensen of Denmark is still living as far as the family is able to know.
