Bill Pryor 1925-1944

William Dale “Bill” Pryor, 19, a member of the United States Maritime Service died at his parents’ home here suddenly Thursday afternoon, October 12th. Pryor became ill while home on a visit following two trips overseas. He was only ill a few days but complications from an infected throat caused his sudden death.

He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Pryor and was born at Altoona, September 24, 1925 reaching the age of 19 years and 18 days. With his parents he came to Avoca five years ago where he attended high school.

Being unable to serve his country in military service because of infirmities, he entered the service of the United States Maritime Service on September 16, 1943.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his parents and one brother, Sgt. Harry Pryor serving in the army in England; two sisters, Mrs. Frances Sutton of Avoca and Mrs. Elna Temby of Des Moines.

Services were held at the Blust Bros. Funeral home on Sunday, October 15 at 10 am with Rev. Peter Trucano of Tennant officiating. Burial took place in the family lot at Altoona.

The large amount of floral offerings and friends who called give testimony of the esteem in which this young man was held in the community.
