Mrs. Marie Hansen Lassen 1866-1943

Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 2, at the First Lutheran church in Avoca for Mrs. Marie Lassen who passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Naemie McMcKenny at Long Beach, California on December 28, 1943. The Rev. Joseph Gerlt officiated at the services.

Mrs. Lassen was born December 29, 1866 in Wakerade, Germany, the daughter of Henning and Wilhelmina Hansen. At the age of seventeen she came to the United States and went to the home of her uncle living at Walnut. On October6, 1886, she was married to Hans Lassen. Mr. and Mrs. Lassen rented a farm several miles southeast of Avoca and after several years purchased it. Later they purchased the Diedrich residence in Avoca where they lived until Mr. Lassen’s death in April of 1935. Preceding her in death besides he husband were two daughters and two sons. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Naemie McKenny of Long Beach, California; three sons, Herman of Avoca and Gus and Arnold of Chicago, Illinois; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren’ two sisters, Mrs. Dora Wolff of Avoca and Mina Weirum of Hollywood, California.
