Dies on Christmas Day

Funeral services were held Monday December 17 at the Presbyterian church for Lee W. Taylor, pioneer farmer of near Avoca who passed away at his home here Christmas morning after an illness of three years. Rev. Howard Lindquist of Atlantic officiated at the services with burial in Graceland cemetery.

Lee Taylor was born in Shelby county, Illinois on May 1, 1863, a son of Mr. and Mrs. D.P. Taylor. When a boy of nine years his parents moved to Wooster, Ohio where they lived on a farm for several years. In the spring of 1882 the family moved to Avoca, Iowa where they Mr. Taylor continued his chosen occupation of farming all his life except for a few years when he was an employee of a railway company.

He was stricken with paralysis at the home of his step-son, Herbert Johnson, near Marne three years ago. As soon as he was able to travel he was brought to the home of another step-son, Walter Johnson where he remained most of the winter, then was taken to his own home where he died Saturday morning at the age of eighty years, six months, and twenty-five days.

Mr. Taylor was married in 1904 to Ruth Johnson. No children were born to them, but Mr. Taylor had one son, David, of Cleveland, Ohio, by his first wife. David was unable to attend the funeral of his father. In addition to his widow and one son he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Anna flint of Seattle, Washington, Mrs. Bertha Blake of Chicago, Illinois, and Mrs. Jeanette Fletcher of Avoca. Two sisters preceded him in death, Mrs. Hannah Partch and Mrs. Harriet Garlow.
