Calvin Mauer
Calvin Mauer, 82, a retired farmer living at Minden, was killed at 12:50 pm Saturday, when the westbound Rock Island freight train, No 91, struck him near his home.

Mauer was crossing the tracks with a wheelbarrow en route to get some wood from an area nearby, when the train hit him. He was killed almost instantly.

Jack Begley was the conductor of No 91 and H. H. Cox, the engineer. No 91 usually makes a stop at the crossing where Mauer was killed, but on Saturday it did not stop since there was no way-freight to be loaded.

Surviving are his wife, Katherine; five sons, Clarence and Arthur (Jack) of Minden; Wesley of
Shelby, Leslie of Neola, and Earl of Omaha; one daughter, Mrs. Joe Wood of council Bluffs; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Leaders and Mrs. Elizabeth Simon of Council Bluffs, 27 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

The body is at the Tyler funeral home pending funeral arrangements.
