Thomas McCarthy 1871-1943

Thomas McCarthy, 72, of Hancock, died at his home eight miles southwest of Avoca early Friday of a heart ailment.
Funeral services were held Tues, May 4, with requiem high mass at 9 1m at St. Mary’s church in Avoca by the Rev. V. D. Cashman, pastor. Burial was in St. Peter’s cemetery in Defiance.

Mr. McCarthy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis McCarthy, was born February 23, 1871, in Bucklin, Missouri coming to Avoca 60 years ago and residing most of these years on the home place where he died. The remaining intervening years he lived near Defiance. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Clara J. McCarthy; eight children, six sons and two daughters, Joseph D. of Lincoln, Cadent Donald M. of Pathfinder Flying Service of Carson city, Nevada, Seaman 2c Daniel J., U.S.N.T.S., Eugene T., Patrick J. and Thomas Jr., all at home; Kathryn G. of Omaha and Mrs. Jack B. Hill of Oakland, California; one brother, Michael, and three sisters, Mary McCarthy and Mrs. Katherine Wise, all of Hancock, and Mrs. Ellen Gross of Omaha.
