Michael G. CARTER, age 70 of Avoca, IA died Thursday, 20 November 2008 in Omaha, NE.
Memorial services were Monday, November 24 at United Church of Avoca with Pastor Nancy Hullinger as officiant. His immurement will be held on a later date at the Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA.
. . ., the family has suggested memorials in his honor to the UN Foundation in Omaha.
Michael G. Carter was born in San Diego on September 3, 1938 to Harold G. and Heisel McNEIL CARTER.
After graduating from high school, he received his BS degree and spent 20 years in the U.S. Air Force with the rank of Major. During his career, Michael flew in a B52 and had flown 105 missions during the Vietnam War.
After retiring from the military, he worked computer security for Digital Equipment and Fidelity Investments in Massachuesetts.
Michael and his wife Pamela returned to Avoca in 1991.
His memberships inclued the Masonic Lodge, lifetime member of American Legion Post 227, lifetime member of VFW, and he also served as Commissioner of Veterans Affairs.
He was preceeded in death by his parents; brother, Clark CARTER; and brother-in-law Larry LAVALLE.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Pamela (BARNHART) CARTER; son Patrick CARTER and his wife Jennifer and their daughter Brittney, his daughter Diana SYMANOWICZ and her husband Bruce and their childen Carter, Spencer and Katherine, all Avoca; mother-inlaw Faye WALLENMEYER and friend Jim GOLDAY of Indiana; sisters Anne ALLISON and Al Mary LAVALLE adn brother Steve CARTER and Candy all of Florida; and sister-in-law Gail DEAL and Roy of Indiana; numerous nieces and nephews.
