Edgar A. Bergman 1862-1943

Funeral services were held for Edgar A. Bergman Friday afternoon at the Blust Funeral Home at 2 pm. Burial was in Graceland cemetery with Rev. Ivan Rachtell officiating.

Edgar Augustus Bergman, son of Peter Martha Johnson and Peer Johnson was born at Layfayette, Illinois on February 11, 1862. He passed away at his home Tuesday morning March 16th aged 81 years, one month and five days.

Later he lived near Galva, Illinois with his foster parents Mr. and Mrs. A.C.Bergman. In May 1871, when he was nine years old they came to the farm northwest of Avoca where he lived for sixty-two years. Ten years ago they moved to their present home in Avoca leaving their son, Frank Bergman to continue the farming.

In the year of 1887 on November 24th he was united in marriage to Miss Kate Beistline of Avoca and to this union seven children were born; three daughters and four sons, Mrs. Caroline Wise (deceased), Mrs. Edna Schmidt of Avoca; Mrs. Nell Fisher of LeMars, Clem of Eudora, Kansas; Will of Omaha, Frank and Carl both of Avoca. He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife and six children, 19 grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and one half brother, J.C. Johnson of Chicago, besides other relatives and friends.
