Hugh Johnson 1883-1949

Hugh Albert Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Johnson was born on a farm in Fairview township, Shelby county, on a farm in Fairview township, Shelby county, on February 2, 1883.

When he was eight years of age, he with his parents moved to Avoca, where he made his home until the time of his death.

Mr. Johnson was a day laborer and the past year operated the moving picture machine at the Avoca theatre. For the past eight years he made his home with his sister, Mrs. Emma Cook.

Mr. Johnson leaves to mourn his death two sisters: Mrs. Earl Cook of Avoca and Mrs. Thomas Sallee of Jacksonville, Florida. His parents, one sister and three brothers preceded him in death. He also leaves to mourn three nieces and four nephews and a host of other near relatives and friends.

The deceased has been in failing health for several months. Five weeks ago he was taken to a hospital in Council Bluffs where he passed away on Friday morning at 5:15 am, July 29, 1949, reaching the age of 76 years, 5 months, and 27 days.

Services were held Sunday at the Blust-Berthusen funeral home with the Rev. John DeBerg officiating. Burial was in Graceland cemetery.
