In Memory: Donald L. Heath

Donald L. “The Judge” Heath, 84, of Council Bluffs, died January 28 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

He was born December 26, 1917, to Roy Sr. and Matilda (Ingwersen) Heath in Logan. He served for 23 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1959 at the rank of master sergeant. He served as magistrate for Pottawattamie County from 1973 to 1993. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #2, Veterans of Foreign War #737 and Covert Lodge #11 AF & AM of Omaha.

His wife Maxine preceded him in death in 2000.

Survivors include a daughter, Toni Conklin and husband Robert, of Omaha; a son, Kim “Rusty” of Crescent; two stepdaughters, Lynda Wahling and husband Gene of Shelby and Lau Rae Kingsbury and husband Don of Omaha; two stepsons, Meredith “Moe” Coffman and wife Marilyn of Blackfoot, Idaho, and Mervin Coffman of Council Bluffs; a sister, Donna Baumhover and husband Don of Mokena, Illinois; a half-brother, Doug heath and wife Darlene of Las Cruces, new Mexico; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family was held Wednesday evening at Cutler Funeral Chapel. A Masonic service by Covert Lodge #11 AF & AM of Omaha was held Wednesday at Cutler Chapel. The funeral was held Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church with Revs. Judith Hazen and Roger Prescott followed by a luncheon at the church.

Burial with graveside military rites by the Offutt Air Force Base Honor Guard was in the Shelby Cemetery.

Memorials may be offered to St. John Lutheran Church or Micah House. Cutler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
