In Memory: Lillian Marie Andersen
Lillian Marie Andersen, 89, died after a short stay at the Avoca Nursing and Rehab Center on January 30, 2002.
She was born on May 13, 1912 on a farm northeast of Avoca. Lillian and Harry were the only children of Fred and Laura Christensen Johnson.
She attended country school and graduated from Avoca high School in 1928, earning a normal training certificate. After graduation she helped care for her father, who had suffered a server stoke in 1925.
Lillian married Ernest Andersen on February 28, 1930 at the Lutheran Parsonage in Avoca. They farmed south of Shelby until 1934 and then moved to the family farm northeast of Avoca, her birthplace.
They were the parents of four children; Eleanor, Laura Ann, Marlin and Robert. They built a new home in Avoca and moved there in 1977.
Lillian and Ernest enjoyed traveling and took two trips to Denmark, Ernest’s homeland until he was 19 years old. They celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary shortly before Ernest died on June 16, 1980.
Lillian was a charter member of the former English Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir and serving on the Alter Guild. She was a member of the Myrtue Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and served on the board for six year. She enjoyed flowers and birds and sharing her baking with family and friends.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ernest, her daughter and son-in-law Eleanor and Michael Quinn and her brother Harry Johnson.
Survivors include her daughter Laura Ann and husband Charlie Allen of Avoca; her sons, Marlin Andersen and wife Darlene and Robert Andersen and wife Linda, all of Avoca; 12 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral ceremonies were held Monday, February 4 at 10:30 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca with Pastor Lou Hoger and Lay Assistant Wayne Paulsen officiating. Interment was at Graceland Cemetery in Avoca.
