Bertha Wilhemina Plautz Rock
(March 1, 1876 - February 26, 1949)

Mrs. H. V. Rock who died Saturday of a heart ailment enroute to an Omaha hospital were held from the First Lutheran church in Avoca Sunday, February 27. The Rev Joseph Gerlt conducted the services with burial in Graceland cemetery.

Bertha Wilhemina Plautz, a daughter of Chris Plautz and his wife Wilhelmina Buman, was born on March 1, 1876 in Goodland, Indiana. She came with her parents to Avoca at the age of three and lived on a farm northwest of Hancock.

On July 17, 1895, she was married to Henry V. Rock. Mr. and Mrs. Rock started farming southwest of Avoca on a farm now owned by Henry Franz. In 1900, they moved to their farm on the bottom southwest of Avoca where they lived until they moved to Avoca and retired in 1941.

They were the parents of five sons and seven daughters. There remain to mourn Arnold, Leo, Carl, and Oscar all of Avoca; Mrs. Fred Sieh, Mrs. William Pattee, Mrs. John Carroll, Mrs. Rhinhardt Drummer all of Avoca; Mrs. Herman Boettger of Harlan, Mrs. Raymond Burmeister and Mrs. Richard McKinny of Hancock. A son, Herbert, preceded his mother in dead in 1925.

Mrs. Rock is also survived by 27 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and a brother, John Plautz. Four brothers: Charlie, Henry, William, and Chris Plautz preceded her in death.
