Edward A. Leach 1879-circa 1948
Last rites for Edward A. Leach, 69, were held at the Blust-Berthusen funeral home here this afternoon (Thursday) at 2 pm with the Rev Joseph Gerlt in charge. Burial was in Graceland cemetery.
Mr. Leach died in his sleep at his home in Avoca Monday, September 13. When he failed to arise Monday morning for his breakfast, his wife discovered his lifeless body. Death was due to a heart condition.
Edward A. Leach was born in Avoca on June 1, 1879, the son of Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Leach. He attended school in Avoca and worked at the butcher trade with his father until the elder Mr. Leach retired in 1910. He was in the butcher shop business for several years here and later sold his shop to Herbert Schilling.
On May 12, 1908, he was married to Emma Vogt who survives him. Recently, Mr. Leach has worked with the Harlan Rendering Co, in the territory around Avoca. His familiar whistle and kindly disposition will be missed by all his friends and especially farmers in this community whom he visited often.
Other survivors include a brother, Dr. H.E. Leach of Avoca and two nieces, Geraldine Leach of Avoca and Peggy Leach of Iowa City.
