Hancock Youth Drowns in LakeHoward Bintz, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bintz of Hancock, was drowned Tuesday at 7 pm while swimming on a lake at the ted Johnk farm east of Hancock. Sheriff’s officers, who pulled the youth out of eight feet of water with grappling hooks three hours after he went down, said Bintz had evidently stepped into a hole.
Bintz had gone to the Johnk lake with Everett Kahl, at whose farm he had been working. Mr. Kahl told officers the youth dropped from sight immediately upon entering the water. Both men were inexperienced swimmers.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:30 pm at the Methodist Church in Hancock, the Rev. G. B. Bauman in charge, with burial in Shelby cemetery. Tyler funeral home of Council Bluffs is in charge.
Surviving are his parents and one brother, Willard; three sisters: Ruth, Dorothy and Lois, all at home; two grandfathers, William Vogt of Avoca and George Bintz of Council Bluffs.
