William Lester Smith 1876-1948

William Lester Smith, son of Caleb and Hattie Smith, early Iowa pioneers, was born in the Cuppy Grove vicinity in Shelby County, Iowa, on July 12, 1876.

He received his early education in the Avoca Public School.

On December 20, 1899, he was united in marriage to Katie Petersen Driesbach, the now bereaved widow.

Mr.Smith was affiliated with the Knights of Pythian Lodge.

The deceased after an illness of one year, departed this life at his home north of Avoca on June 30, 1948, reaching the age of 71 years, 11 months, and 18 days.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, Katie, and four children, Marguerita Morrison of Des Moines, Harriet Peters of Avoca, Edwin c. smith of Omaha and Martha Dahl of Denver, Colorado.

He also leaves to mourn one sister, Laura Smith of Avoca and three grandchildren: Rita and Carl Richard Dahl and Peggy Lou Smith.
