Dies in Hospital
Served in England During World War IIAlvin Niemann, 34, a veteran of World War II, died at the Verteran’s hospital at Lincoln, Ne., Tuesday, March 14th following a major operation.
Niemann was taken to the hospital last Wednesday and was operated on the next day for a perforated ulcer of the stomach. He rallied from the operation but despite the best of medical care passed away about 10:45 am Tuesday.
He was inducted into the army in June 1942, and following his training in various camps in this country he arrived in England on October 24, 1942. He served there as an ambulance driver in the Medical corps until April 7, 1943. Neimann was sent back to this country and was discharged from the services on August 6, 1943.
Born in Council Bluffs on March 6, 1919, Alvin Niemann was educated in the Avoca grade and high school. He was the youngest son of Mrs. Fred Niemann of Avoca.
Besides his mother, he is survived by two sisters; Mrs. Will Phillips of Turner Valley, Alberta Canada; and Mrs. Paul Reichstadt of Omaha; three brothers: Louis of Logan, Arthur of Burbank, Ca., and Theodore of Avoca.
The body is at the Blust Bros. funeral home. Funeral services will be held at the First Lutheran church, Saturday afternoon at 2 pm with the Rev Joseph Gerlt officiating. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery. Members of the Fred Funston American Legion Post will attend and form a color guard and firing squad.
