William Wiese 1863-1948
Last rites for William Wiese, retired farmer, were held from the Blust Berthusen funeral home Monday afternoon, October 11, (1948) at 2 pm with the Rev. Joseph Gerlt officiating. Burial was in Graceland cemetery.
Mr. Wiese died at his home in Avoca on Saturday, October 9. He reached the age of 85 years, 4 months, and 25 days.
William Wiese, a son of Peter Wiese and his wife Lena Stoltenburg, was born in Schoeberg Holstein, Germany on May 14, 1863. He received his education the public schools in Germany and came to this country in 1879.
In May of 1888, he sent for his parents, a brother and a sister and they started farming in this community. In 1901, he quit active farming but continued to reside on his farm near Corley with his mother.
He is survived by his widow, a sister, Mrs. Bertha Giese of Avoca, two step-daughters, Mrs. Norman Klug of Portland, Oregon and Mrs. Clarence Olsen of Denver, Colorado.
