Eunice Letner Goss Nelsen 1895-1949
Eunice Letner Nelsen, 53, died Monday evening, April 18, 1949, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Jacobsen, in Avoca.
Eunice Letner was born at Danbury, Iowa, July 27, 1895, to Henry and Eunice Phillips Letner, and came with them to Avoca when she was about ten years of age. When eighteen years of age, she was married at Guthrie Center to Samuel Goss. They became the parents of two children, Samuel Jr., and Eunice, now Mrs. G.R. Beymer.
She was married to Chris Nelsen, now deceased, September 15, 1925, at Rockport, Missouri. A son, George, and a daughter, Betty, now Mrs. LeRoy Jacobsen were born of this marriage.
Most of Mrs. Nelsen’s life was spent in Avoca with short time residences in Pella, Des Moines, Atlantic and in Minnesota. She had been ill for the past two years, the past six months of which she had been bedfast with an illness which necessitated the amputation of her left limb. Needless to say, her suffering had been intense. Her husband, Chris Nelsen, passed away august 16, 1948.
She is survived by two sons: Samuel Goss Jr., of Penquilly, Minnesota and George Nelsen of Avoca; two daughters, Mrs. Eunice Beymer of Glendale, California and Mrs. Betty Jacobsen of Avoca; six sisters: Mrs. Pearl Harris, Mrs. Edna Gibbons and Mrs. Fannie How of Avoca, Mrs. Nell Addison of Oakland, Mrs. Florence LaPiner and Mrs. Urania Soberstrom of Los Angeles; and one brother, Roy Letner of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two brothers, Floyd and Guy having preceded her in death; seven grandchildren: Sammy, Robert, Freddie and Marion Goss; Dickie and Ken Beymer, and Kriselle Jacobsen.
Funeral services are being held this afternoon at the Blust-Berthusen funeral home with Rev. A.J. Goodson in charge. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.
