Mrs. Elmer Rock, 21, drops ill preparing to go to church
Husband hears fall

Mrs. Elmer Rock, 21, died of uremic convulsions Sunday at her home in Avoca as she was preparing to leave for church to teach her Sunday school class.

Earlier in the morning she had complained of feeling ill, but later declared that she was all right and began dressing for church. Her husband, hearing her fall, rushed into the bedroom and found Mrs. Rock unconscious. She died a short time later.

She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Charles Bornholdt of Avoca; a sister, Mrs. L. M. Burkhead of Pauline, Iowa, and a brother Herbert Bornholdt of Wausau, Nebraska.

The body was taken to the Blust funeral home in Avoca. Funeral services will be held at the home at 2 pm Tuesday with Rev Probst in charge. Burial will be in the Avoca cemetery.

Mrs. Elmer Rock called by Death

This community was greatly shocked Sunday morning when word was passed around that Mrs. Elmer Rock had passed away suddenly, at her home.

Alma Bornholdt spent her entire life in Avoca, attending and graduating from our public schools in 1827. She was united in marriage to Elmer Rock at Sioux City, Iowa, July 31, 1929. Being possessed of a sunny, cheerful disposition, thoughtful of her associates, she was one of the most popular and best loved of our young ladies. Her sudden death came as a shock to the entire community.

Mrs. Rock had not been in perfect health for some time but her condition was not considered alarming. She was at her husband’s tore late Saturday evening, apparently feeling better and joked and laughed with her friends. Sunday morning, after preparing the Sunday dinner, she dressed and started for Sunday school when she was taken ill. Dr. Baumeister was called and everything possible done to relieve her, but she passed away in a few minutes time.

Surviving are her husband, her mother, Mrs. Catharine Bornholdt of Avoca, one sister, Mrs. Edna Burkhead of Paulina, Iowa, one brother, Herbert Bornholdt of Wausa, Nebraska; her father passed away in January of 1929.

Hundreds attended the funeral services, the stores closed in respect to one whose familiar face and sunny smile had been a welcome visitor at their places of business for years, from childhood days to womanhood, her departure regretted and she left behind her sunshine and happiness.
