Herbert V. Rock 1905-1925
Herbert Rock passed away at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry v. Rock, Monday morning at 3:15 o’clock, at the age of 19 years, 5 months, and 22 days. The funeral was held from the First Evangelical Lutheran church on Wednesday, May 6 (1925) at 2 o’clock with following interment in the Avoca cemetery.
Herbert Vollmer Rock was born on November 12, 1905, being the sixth child of Mr. and Mrs. Henry V. Rock. The following year he received holy baptism and was confirmed at the Lutheran church at Avoca on the 16 of April, 1922.
Herbert was a model son and brother ever ready to perform the duties that fell to him on the farm, always ready to do his part. There was every reason to think that he would live a long and useful life in this community. Providence has not assigned him this place, much too soon according to our thoughts was his early life cut off. An attack of the grippe had probably left a weakness in the lungs and a cold that he contracted did not pass off as one would expect, but developed gradually into pleurisy and pneumonia, the attack came sudden and proved too sever to be overcome. Careful nursing and the skill of two specialists from Omaha could not save the precious life.
He leaves his father and mother and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Ferd Sieh, Mrs. William Pattee, Mrs. John Carroll, Leonard, Carl, Bertha, Hulda, Inez, Edna and Oscar, besides a large number of relatives and friends.
