Raymond Chris Berge 1918-1934

Raymond Chris Berge, the second youngest son of Fred Berge and his wife, Alvine Wulf was born August 24, 1918 about five and one-half miles southwest of Avoca on the present Fred Berge farm and was called to his eternal home last Monday morning at about 5:45 am having thus reached the age of 16 years, 4, months, and 7 days.

Raymond was baptized November 10, 1918, and through this holy rite, with Anna and Peter Russmann speaking for him he became a child of god. On May 7, 1933, he made his own confession of faith in the Trinne God have before the altar with 16 other members of a junior confirmation class.

Raymond received his rural school education in the Oak Grove school, he was very fond of singing and with his jokes and clever ways to entertain those who might be about him. He found delight in teaching his little nephew songs, during the Christmas season he made attempts to teach Robert, his nephew the son, “God Will Take Care of You.”

Last Thursday morning he took ill and at first the parents thought that it was just a little illness as so often comes and goes again in life. Friday morning a doctor was called who diagnosed his illness to be inflammation of the bowels, but in the afternoon he became worse and then the doctor took him to the hospital for an appendicitis operation but it was too late and on Monday morning he fell asleep.

Those who survive him are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Berge, three brothers; Clarence, Frank, and Rudolph; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Clarence Berge and also a nephew, Robert Berge, also a host of other relatives and friends.

May he rest in peace.
