(May 5, 1915 - May 25, 2007)
of Cedar Rapids, IA passed away Friday, May 25, 2007 at Keystone Cedars Assisted Living Community in Cedar Rapids. He had attained the age of 92 years and 20 days.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 30 at the Shelby Presbyterian Church in Shelby, IA with Pastor John Epperson as the clergy. Serving as honorary casket bearers were Dean LUXFORD and Ron EGGERSS with David MOORE, Steven SCHOENAUER, Steven MOORE, “Skip” LEONARD, Kenneth CRANDALL and David ATCHLEY as the casket bearers. Interment was held in the Woodbine Cemetery in Woodbine, IA. Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca, IA was in charge of arrangements.

Wesley Charles MOORE the son of Charles and Maggie PURCELL MOORE was born May 5, 1915 at his parents farm near Logan, IA.

In 1923 his family moved to Woodbine where he graduated from high school in May 1935. After graduation he worked at the Woodbine Lumber Company and the Fullerton Lumber Company of Greenfield, IA.

Wes married Lola Josephine LEONARD on Jun 28, 1942 at the Leonard family farm near Logan.

Later that year, West enlisted in the Navy Seabees. He was initially stationed at Norfolk, VA and Williamsburg, VA where the Navy was building a new Seabee base, Camp Perry. He was sent to the South Pacific Theater on December 27, 1943 where he served with the 17th Special battalion supporting the 4th Marines on Emirau Island and the 1st Marines on Peleliu Island. Wes was discharged from the service on November 27, 1945.

Shortly after the war, Wes and Lola purchased the lumberyard in Tennant, IA where they worked together for 25 years and raised their family. West also designed and manufactured a popular farm wagon box while in Tennant.

In 1971, Wes and Lola moved to Grinnell, IA and where they worked together at the Denniston-Partridge Lumber Company. During this time, Wes became active in the Grinnell Kiwanis Club and they were both active in the Grinnell Christian Church.

In 1982, they retired and moved to Shelby. He became active in the Harlan Kiwanis Club and started the Shelby Kiwanis Club. They were both active in the Shelby Presbyterian Church.

Due to declining health, Wes and Lola moved to Cedar Rapids, IA in December 2004 where they lived at Keystone Cedars Assisted Living Community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and his wife Lola of 64 years.

Wes is survived by two sons, Richard Moore and his wife Rosemary of Council Bluffs, IA and Dale MOORE and his wife Cheryl of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren; a sister in law, Helen LEONARD of Logan; plus many other relatives and friends.
