Rites Held Sunday

Funeral services for Mrs. Nels Jacobsen, 72, were held from the English Lutheran church in Avoca on Sunday, November 12 (1949) with Rev Oscar E. Johnson officiating. Burial was in Graceland cemetery.

Mrs. Jacobsen died at a Council Bluffs hospital on Thursday, November 10, following a long illness.

Johanna Mary Thogersen was born June 12, 1877, at Alstrup, Denmark. She reached the age of 72 years, 5 months, and 21 days. She came to this country with her parents at the age of three years and the family settled at Avoca. Mrs. Jacobsen lived most of her life in the Avoca community.

On December 16, 1903, she was married to Nels P. Jacobsen. To this union nine children were born: four daughters: Mrs. Henry Koenig and Mrs. Harry Nielsen of Avoca; Mrs. Herman Scheffler of Hancock, and Mrs. Harley Dillion of San Diego, California: five sons: Peter and Hans of Hancock, Viggo of Council Bluffs, and Fred of Walnut. The fifth son, Eddie, preceded his mother in death on December 2, 1946.
