LASTRITES HELD FOR MRS. EGGERSS (1860-1949)

Funeral services or Mrs. William Eggerss Sr. were held from the First Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon with the Rev Joseph Gerlt officiating. Burial was in Graceland cemetery.

Mrs. Eggerss died at her home in Avoca Monday morning following a long illness. She reached the age of 89 years and 15 days.

Augusta Eggerss, daughter of John Stender and his wife Caroline Buck, was born in Schleswig Holstein, Germany on October 16, 1860. She came to this country with her parents at the age of 10 settling at Davenport. Later they moved to the Minden neighborhood living on a farm for 25 years.

On March 6, 1883, she was married to William Eggerss and they began their married life on a farm about a mile west of Shelby. They lived on the farm until they moved to Avoca. Mr. Eggerss preceded his wife in death on August 11, 1942.

She is survived by seven children: two daughters; Mrs. Thomas Thomsen of Council Bluffs, Mrs. William Preuss of Shelby; five sons: Fred of Council Bluffs, William and Carl of Avoca, Herman of Council Bluffs, and Paul of Avoca; also 23 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

She is also survived by three sisters: Mrs. Nancy Hansen of Shelby, Mrs. Emma Gregersen of Shelby and Mrs. Groepper of Wausa, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, John, and an only brother, Herman Stender.
