Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Grauel, who died at the Methodist Hospital at Sioux City November 9, (1922). The funeral service was held in Avoca Monday, November 13 with interment in the Harlan Cemetery.
Bessie Elizabeth Grauel was born July 6, 1886, at Harlan, Iowa and departed this life Thursday November 9, 1922 at the Methodist Hospital at Sioux City, aged thirty-six years, four months and three days.

Most of her early life was spent at Harlan and Tennant, the family later moving to Avoca where they have lived for the past thirteen years, and where she has chiefly resided.

At a very early age she was led to saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, and joined the Methodist church at Harlan, at the age of six years. She was led later to give and to consecrate her life to the church of Jesus Christ, and to devote her entire time to His service. For this purpose and to this end she entered the Iowa National Bible Training school at Des Moines, graduating from this institution in June 1921. She began this training fifteen years ago, but was constantly menaced by ill health, but like a true soldier of the cross, she persevered, fought, and overcame the physical handicap, and finally came to her graduation to which reference has been made. Since her graduation she has been engaged in various kinds of Christian work in connection with the Methodist church of which she was a member and deaconess, making her headquarters at Odebolt, Iowa, in the Ida Grove Conference, Iowa.

She leave to mourn her loss, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Grauel, four brothers: Roy, George, Harold and Clarence all of Avoca; one sister, Mrs. E. K. Harris of Pender, Nebraska; two nephews, Eugene and Jackson Harris; numerous other relatives and a host of friends. She is called to higher service in the presence of the Master, whose she was, and whom she served.

The body was brought to Avoca where the funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church on Monday, November 13th, conducted by the Rev. F. B. Nixon, D.D; Superintendent of the Ida Grove Conference of the Methodist Episcopal church; assisted by the Rev. A.E. Griffith, D. D, President of the Bible Training School at Des Moines; the Rev. Mr. Van Meter, pastor of the Methodist church at Odebold; and the Rev. M.G. court, pastor of the Presbyterian church of which she was for several years a member.

Interment was made at Harlan cemetery, Iowa.

She was a loving and dutiful daughter; a kind and considerate friend.
Now the labourer’s task is o’er’ Not the battle day is past; Now upon the farther shore;
Lands the voyager at last; Father, in Thy gracious keeping
Leave we now Thy servant sleeping.
