MRS. MARY HEALY (?-1935)
Mary Ann Scannell was born in Ireland, near the city of Cork. When but a child she came to America with her family and they settled at Canton, Massachusetts. She was educated in a convent, and later married Captain Cornelius Healy at Manchester, New Hampshire. Mr. and Mrs. Healy made their home in Boston where Mr. Healy was engaged in business.
Later, on account of the failing health of Mr. Healy, the family moved to an Iowa farm a short distance west of Avoca. After a few years, the family retired from the farm and has made their home in Avoca ever since. She passed away at this home Saturday, October 12, 1935, after a short illness.
Mr. and Mrs. Healy were the parents of three sons: C.T., Thomas C., and Jerry (deceased), and four daughters: Mary B, Nellie J., Nora L., and Kathleen. One grandchild, Shirly Healy also survives Mrs. Healy.
Mrs. Healy was a woman of gracious manner and her hospitality was known and appreciated by a wide circle of friends who will miss her keen sense of humor and witty sayings She was first of all a lover and a home maker.
Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s church Monday at 9:30 am with interment in the Avoca cemetery. Mass was celebrated by Reverend Father Cashman.
