THOMAS ANDRESEN 1853-1938
Died Monday, September 12

Thomas Andresen passed away Monday morning at the home of Mrs. Fanny How after several years of illness, at the age of 85 years, 7 months, and 11 days.

The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, September 14 (1938) at the Chrisinger Funeral Home at two o’clock with Rev. Christensen of the English Lutheran Church, officiating and the choir from the German Lutheran church furnished the music. Interment was in the Avoca cemetery.

Thomas Andreen was born at Bohmsledt, Province of Schleswig-Holsetin, Germany on January 31, 1853. He came to America when a young man, locating in Avoca and engaged in the tailoring business for anumber of years. He later went into the dairy business owning a fine herd of Jersey dairy cattle.

About 1900 he engaged in the saloon business, operating a saloon on upper main street known as “Andresen’s Reseort.” He later sold the business and purchased the saloon and building across the street south of the Avoca State bank with Simon Beine. They operated this business for years.

During his stay in Avoca, Mr. Andresen made three trips to his native country. He has been in very poor health for the past several years. The last few years he has made his home with Mrs. Fannie How, who has given him every possible care and made his last few years as comfortable as possible.
While engaged in the tailoring business in Avoca, Mr. Andresen built up a nice business. He will be remembered by many of the old timers of forty and fifty years ago.
