MISS MARIE HASS 1875-
DIES FOLLOWING OPERATION

Miss Marie Hass died at the Jennie Edmundson hospital at Council Bluffs Sunday morning at 6 o’clock. The body was brought to Avoca and taken to the Blust funeral home where the services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. Joseph Gerlt, of the Lutheran Evangelical church officiating. The body was buried in the family lot in the Avoca cemetery.

Miss Marie Hass born at Walnut, Iowa, Aril 13, 1875, where she attended the public schools of that city and grew to womanhood. She learned the millinery trade and about 25 years ago she with her sister came to Avoca and opened up a millinery store and ladies ready-to-wear goods. Last July they retired from business on account of the poor health of Marie Hass.

Tuesday, November 10, she was taken suddenly ill and Saturday she was taken to the hospital for an emergency operation, revealing acute peritonitis, from which she never rallied and passed away.

Marie Hass was a lady who had a large circle of friends, always interested in the things that help to make the community better. For 25 years the two sisters were close companions most always seen together in their daily walks after business hours and the death of Marie is a severe blow to her sister, Anna, who has been constantly with her ever since her health began to fail

She leaves to mourn her loss two sisters, Mrs. Catharine Bornholdt and Miss Anna Hass and a large number of relatives. Her parents had preceded her in death.
