HANS WILHELM JACOBSEN 1872-1932

Hans W. Jacobsen was born at Ostenfeldt, Schleswig, Germany on October 28, 1872, and passed away at his home Tuesday, March 8, 1932 at the age of 59 years, r months, and 9 days. Funeral services will be held at the Evangelical Lutheran church at Avoca, Friday afternoon, March 11, at 2 o’clock. Rev. Joseph Gerit officiating.

When fifteen years of age, in the year 1887, he together with his parents left their Fatherland, and came to Iowa, where he has since followed agricultural pursuits in the Avoca community. August 14, 1901, he was married to Miss Emma Kuhl and soon after their marriage they moved to the Kuhl farm about seven miles northeast of Avoca, where they lived for seven years. The past seventeen years Mr. and Mrs. Jacobsen have occupied their present farm.

Mr. Jacobsen is survived by his widow and four sons: Herbert, Harry, Rudolph and Elmer, all of Avoca, and all at home with the exception for Harry who is married and farms nearby, also one sister, Mrs. John Cohrt, of Schleswig, Iowa and three brothers: Fred and Henry Jacobsen, and one grandchild, many other relatives and friends. His parents, one brother and two sisters have preceded him in death.

Mr. Jacobsen was granted many years of good health, an honest and up right man, a good neighbor and friend. Mr. Jacobsen suffered a bad attack of influenza last spring from which he never entirely recovered and was called to his eternal home Tuesday after a week’s serious illness.
