MRS. MAGGIE HORST 1866-1932

Mrs. Margaret Dolldorf Horst was born in Schleswig, Germany, November 9, 1866, and passed away at her home Sunday morning, September 11, 1932, aged 65 years, 10 months and 2 days. Funeral services are being held at her home this afternoon, Thursday. Rev. Joseph Gerit of the Evangelical Lutheran church officiating.

Mrs. Horst lived in and around Avoca most all of her life, having come to this country when five years old. She was married to Ehler Horst, October 24, 1885, to this union nine children were born, four daughters and two sons having preceded her in death. Mr. Horst passed away April 11, 1911. Surviving are three sons: Henry, at home, William, of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Carl, of Avoca, ten grandchildren and one brother, William Dolldorf of Naper, Nebraska, a niec, Elizabeth Kolb of Oakland, California, and other relatives.

Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Horst continued to make a home for her sons, until William enlisted in the worlds’ war and Carl was married. “Heinie” remaining at home. She was woman kind hearted and thoughtful of neighbors and friends. Any kindness shown her was never forgotten. She enjoyed visits with friends of her early life and during the final days of illness showed a jovial disposition, resigned to her lot in life just the reverse of her younger days. Fortunately her last illness was of short duration, being confined to her bed about four weeks when death relieved her suffering early Sunday morning. Say what you may, Maggie Horst was a good old soul, thoughtful and kind to others, with many friends. She never intentionally harmed any one. She said what she thought and took her misfortunes with a smile.
