Mrs. Herman (Clara Hagedorn) Seiffert Died Wednesday Morning

Mrs. Herman Seiffert died Wednesday morning, May 31 (1933), at her home in the north part of Avoca, after an illness of several months, aged 65 years, one month and 17 days. The funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2, at 2 o’clock at the Evangelical Lutheran church, Rev Jospeh Gerit officiating.

Mrs. Herman Seiffert was born at Davenport, Iowa, April 14, 1868. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Hagedorn. When a child four years old she came with her parents to Pottawattamie county, locating in Pleasant township on a farm. Her girlhood days were spent on the farm with her parents, helping her neighbors when her services were needed. During her girlhood days she became very popular among the young people, her kind and pleasant disposition made her many friends.

On November 9, 1889, she was united in marriage to Herman Seiffert, to this union one daughter was born, Mrs. F. W. Siemers, whose death occurred January 10, 1933.

Two years after her marriage Mr. and Mrs. Seiffert made a trip to Germany, on crossing the Atlantic, Mrs. Seiffert was taken down with the measles, proper care could not be given her, until they landed in Germany. In the hospital in Germany they failed to restore Mrs. Seiffert to her former good health. The effect of the disease affected her hearing, which in passing years became more and more difficult.

Because of her hearing Mrs. Seiffert withdrew from taking part in the affairs of the general public and devoted her time in making her home a home in every sense of the word for her family. She enjoyed her friends and neighbors. She was a lady who enjoyed the success and happiness of others and very fond of young people.

Since the death of her daughter, Mrs. Seiffert’s chief desire and wish was to be a mother of her little grandchild, Margaret Ann.

Man my plan, but God will deal according to His eternal plan. On April 7 he began to call Mrs. Seiffert to her eternal home. On that date she had a paralytic stroke from which she never recovered and Wednesday morning, May 31, at 9 o’clock, she was relieved of her pain and suffering.

Mrs. Seiffert was a lady loved by all who knew her, her friends were many. While her affliction, deprived her of her hearing, she never lost interest in the good things of the community. She always had a smile for all, her own misfortune she never complained of. Her only complaint was, that she wished to more for those more unfortunate.

The death of Mrs. Seiffert has taken from our community one whose whom life has been ideal, whose presence will be missed by those who knew her best for years to come, one whose fine character has been a guiding star to others in the Christian world.

Besides her devoted husband she leaves one grandchild, Margaret Ann Siemers, three sisters: Mrs. Dora Jones of Neola; Mrs. Minnie Gutschlag of Council Bluffs, Mrs. August Hager of Avoca, and one brother, Henry Hagedorn of Council Bluffs; a son-in-law F.W. Siemers of Muscatine and other relatives and friends.
