Car Gas Kills Former Avoca Lady, Tuesday
Fumes From Auto Engine Causes Death; Found By Husband on Floor of Garage

Mrs. W. F. Siemers, 37, wife of W. F. Siemers, assistant cashier of the Muscatine State bank, was found dead in the garage at the Siemers home, 2497 Mulberry Avenue, shortly before 11 am, this morning. Carbon monoxide gas from an automobile which was found funning, when the body was discovered by Mr. Siemers, was blamed for the death.

There will be no inquest, it was said, by Dr. S. D. Folsom, acting coroner in the absence of Dr. W. S. Norton, Muscatine county coroner. Dr. Folsom, after investigating, said that death was accidental, resulting from asphyxiation, by carbon monoxide gas.
Mr. Siemers was called home from the bank shortly before 10:45 o’clock by a maid, who noticed Mrs. Siemer’s absence.

Entering the driveway in his car, he glanced into the garage to see if the other automobile had been taken by his wife. He found her body on the garage floor at the rear of the car, as if she had started to open the garage doors after first starting the motor.

Mr. Siemers carried his wife’s body into the house and summoned Dr. L. C. Howe, who was at Hershey hospital, assisting in an operation.

Dr. Howe applied artificial respiration immediately upon his arrival and summoned a pulmotor from the central fire station, but efforts to revive Mrs. Siemers were fruitless. Dr. Howe said that, she was apparently dead, when he arrived. Drs. W.W. Daut, C.P. Phillips and T. F. Beveridge arrived later from Hersey hospital.

Mrs. Siemers was born at Avoca, Iowa. She was daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H Seiffert. Mrs. Siemers is survived by her husband, an infant daughter, born October 24, 1932, and her parents of Avoca, who were said, at the Siemers home this morning to be enroute to Muscatine today for a visit.

The Fairbanks Home for Funerals in in charge of funeral arrangements, which are still incomple. Burial will be at Avoca---Muscatine Journal and News-Tribune.

Mrs. Siemers, was formerly Miss Meta Seiffert, of Avoca. She was born and raised in Avoca, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Seiffert. The sudden death of Mrs. Siemers has cast a dark shadow over our city. A more popular or finer young lady never lived in our city. She was loved by all who knew her. Her kind disposition and lady-like manners made her friends wherever she went.

Mr. and Mrs. Seiffert had received word the day before that their daughter Mrs. Siemers was not very well and departed Tuesday morning for Muscatine. They were en route when the news of their daughter’s death was given to them on the train.

The funeral services will be held at the Evangelical church, Friday afternoon, at 2 o’clock.
