John C. Russmann
(July 31, 1851- May 30, 1929)

John C. Russmann passed away at his home south of Avoca, Thursday, May 30l 1929 at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 29 days. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 pm from the First Evangelical Lutheran church at Avoca, with interment in the Avoca cemetery.

Johann Chris Russmann was born July 31, 1851, at Entendorf, Schleswig, Holstein, Germany and moved with his parents to Osterfeld near Hasum, where he grew to young manhood. In 1871, he came to America and began farming. In 1881, he was united in marriage to Margareta Lippold, which union was blessed with four children one of whom died in early infancy. In 1888, he moved the state of Washington where his wife died the following year and he soon thereafter retuned to Avoca with his children.

In 1894, he was married to Margareta Ploehn and found in her a good mother for his children. To this union five children were born, all of whom survived the father.

The deceased was one of the early pioneer farmers who did so much to develop this country from raw prairies land to the most fertile land in the world. A good father and trustworthy neighbor. For some time, his health had been failing and the end did not come altogether unexpectedly.

Besides his widow he leaves his children; Mrs. Henry H. Rock and Fred Russmann, of Avoca, Christ of Detroit, Michigan, Herman, Adolph, Alvina and Albert of Avoca, Mrs. Robert Paine of Berkley, California, and number of grandchildren, a brother, Claus of Wayne, Nebraska, a sister, Mrs. Margareta Heldt, of Avoca, and a host of warm friends.
