Peter Eggers departed out of this life on Sunday, October 2, 1927, at the age of 93 years, 7 months, and 12 days. Funeral services were held from the First Ev. Lutheran church at Avoca, Wednesday at 2:30 pm, followed by commitment to the grave at the Avoca cemetery, where the body now rests beside that of his beloved wife.

The deceased was born on February 20, 1834, at Wesselburen, Holsetin, Germany. Here he grew to manhood and received his education and Christian training in a Christian home. He was confirmed at the usual age and united with the Lutheran church of which he has been a faithful member until the time when God saw fit to take him to his eternal reward.

In 1861, he was united in marriage to Marie Johannsen with whom he lived in blessed matrimony for 54 years. This union was blessed with six children, all of whom survived the father, giving him all the comfort and care that dutiful and loving children could give to a kind and devoted father during his declining years.

In 1870, he brought his family to America, coming as far west as Avoca and made his home here. After three years of residence in our town he moved to a farm west of Avoca, where moved to a farm west of Avoca, where moved to a farm west of Avoca, where he lived until old age bade him take to retirement and enjoy the fruits of his labor. In 1908, he again moved to Avoca, where he has been a kind neighbor and faithful friend to many.

In 1915, he was bereaved of his beloved wife, who departed this life May 9th, and soon after that he made his home with his eldest daughter, Mrs. Wm Niemann where for the rest of his life he found a splendid home and loving care.

The deceased enjoyed wonderful health until last year and was seen quite regularly on our streets, where he greeted friends in his jovial way. During last winter his eye sight began to fail and there were other symptoms of decline, but he usually rallied after a few days. Last week he went to visit at the home of his daughter, Adela, for a few days, where he suffered another relapse which he could not overcome and after three days passed peacefully away.

He is survived by his children, William of Omaha, John and Otto of Atlantic, Mrs. Eda Niemann and Mrs. Adela McKinley of Avoca, and Mrs. Mary Franz of Minneapolis, Minnesota ten grandchildren, besides numerous other relatives and friends.
