Requiem Mass For Wm. Robert Gross Today

Funeral services were held this Thursday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic Church for William R. Gross, 58, who died at his home here Christmas morning. The Requiem High Mass was offered by the Rev. V. D. Cashman and the Rev. A. R. Ring.
William R. Gross, the son of Josephine (Wiseman) and Dominick Gross, was born April 13, 1886 in Pleasant Township and died in Avoca December 24, 1944 living all his life in East Pottawattamie county. On November 8, 1911, he was married to Grace Ring at St. Mary’s church in Avoca.
Mr. Gross farmed for nearly fifty years in this community. The family moved to town in the fall of 1937 but Mr. Gross continued to assist with farming operations.

He is survived by his widow and four children: Beatrice, Mrs. Paul Wise, Avoca; Josephine, Mrs. James Leslie of San Bernadino, California,, Wilma at home and Sgt. Bernard stationed in the Aleutians. Seven grandchildren and four sisters: Josephine, Mrs. Harry Sarvis; Margaret, Mrs. Guy Donaldson; Mary, Mrs. John Doll and Bessie, Mrs. Dan Gustafsen; three brothers, George of Shelby, Frank of Avoca and Sgt. Clarence Gross stationed in North Africa. A brother Charles died in 1900.
Pvt. And Mrs. James Leslie and daughter of Victorville, California arrived here Tuesday evening, being called home by the serious illness and death of Mrs. Leslie’s father, Bill Gross.
