Death of Charles Gross

Charles Gross, the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Dominick Gross died Wednesday (May 2, 1900) morning at 3 o’clock, aged 17 years, ten months, and three days. The funeral will be held Friday forenoon at 9:30 o’clock at the Catholic church.
The deceased was born in 1882 on his father’s farm five miles southwest of Avoca, where he has lived all his life. About six years ago he sustained an injury, which he never fully recovered from. At times he would apparently appear alright when all of a sudden a fainting spell would come over him, causing him to fall, rendering him unconscious. He was never allowed to be left alone for any length of time. Tuesday he helped his father in the garden all forenoon, about noon he was taken with one of his fainting spells and gradually grew worse, but the family did not think it would result in anything serious and that he would soon be alright after a little sleep. His father thought it best that he should sleep with him and was up with him several times during the night. About 2 o’clock he had another bad spell, but got better and went to sleep. Mr. Gross seeing that he was resting easy also went to sleep, but he awoke about half past three and found his son dead. The family have the sympathy of the JOURNAL and their many friends.
