Death of Earl Zimmerman

Earl Zimmerman, died Tuesday (January 12, 1914) morning at his home near Carson, after a short illness, age twenty-six years and fifteen days. The funeral services will be held Friday forenoon at the Presbyterian Church in Avoca at 11 0’clock, Rev. Mac Donald officiating.
Earl Zimmerman is the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. James Zimmerman formerly of Avoca, but now living in Hooversville, Pennsylvania. He was born November 28, 1888, and spent the greater part of his boyhood days in Avoca. About twelve years ago his father moved onto a farm south of Avoca and Earl accompanied him to the farm which occupation he followed until his death. About six years ago Earl was married to Miss Margaret Gross a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dominic Gross, to this union three children were born, who will be deprived of the father’s love and guidance through life.

On the 29 of December Mr. Zimmerman was taken sick his ailment was not thought to be serious but he did not recover as rapidly as his family wished, a doctor was called who pronounce he had inflammation of the bowels, his condition became so serious that on Monday he was operated upon, he recovered from the operation all right but passed away Tuesday morning at 10 0’clock. His mother was sent for when his condition became serious but arrived after his death.

The body was brought to Avoca Thursday afternoon and taken to the home of Dominick Gross, four miles southwest of Avoca, where a short service was held Friday morning before it was brought to Avoca to the Presbyterian Church, where services were held. The remains were laid to rest in the beautiful Avoca cemetery.

Besides a wife and three children to mourn his loss, he leaves a father, mother, and one brother. Mr. Zimmerman and son, who live in Pennsylvania, were unable to attend the funeral.
Mrs. James Zimmerman arrived in Avoca Wednesday noon from Hooversville, PA being called here on account of the serious sickness of her son, Earl, who lives east of Carson. Earl died Tuesday afternoon after an operation for appendicitis his mother not knowing of him passing away until her arrival in Avoca.
