Frank Albert MAASSEN passed away Saturday October 25, 2008 at his home in Oakland, IA at the age of 98 years, 9 months and 8 days.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 29 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Oakland with Rev. Benjamin Harju officiating. Interment was at the Oaklawn Cemetery at Oakland. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland was in charge of arrangements.
Frank Albert MAASSEN, the son of William & Emma (ANDERSON) MAASSEN, was born January 17, 1910 on a farm near Hancock, IA.
Frank attended country school while helping his father farm.
On January 17, 1933 he was united in marriage to Vera Alice SCHWINDERMAN at Kuntz Memorial Church in Omaha, NE.
Four children were born to this union: Barbara Lee, Vaneeta, Betty Ann and Frank.
Frank & Vera lived in Hancock before purchasing a farm near Lewis, IA. They lived in Lewis until 1976 when they purchased a farm at Dalhart, TX. They lived in Dalhart until November of 1983 when they moved to Oakland.
Vera did on March 3, 1999.
Frank was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Oakland.
Frank is preceded in death by his wife Vera, his prents, his brothers, Robert and Eddie and his sister Annie BURMEISTER.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Barbara Lee SMITH and husband Bob of Springdale, AR, Vaneeta NIGRO and husband Fred of Gretna, NE, Betty ann HANSON and husband Rob of Port Orchard, WA and Frank MAASSEN and wife Pam of Cedar Falls, IA; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; his sister Ester HEFT of Avoca, IA; and many other relatives and friends.
