CEDAR RAPIDS - Memorial service for Doris "Dodie" White McClain, 87, of Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids will be Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids at 11 a.m.
She died Jan. 23.
She was born in Council Bluffs to Albert and Dorothea White April 22, 1915. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1932 and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University in home economics in 1936, where she was a member of Phi Beta Phi sorority. She taught school at Colo, Marcus and Omaha as well as Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, Deacon, and trustee for the Trust Fund. She was a member of P.E.O., Chapter J.I.; Phi Beta Phi Alumni Club; Monday League; and the Cedar Rapids Country Club. She was also a 25-year volunteer for the Linn County Food Bank.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl "Mac" McClain in November 2002. They were married 63 years. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Martha "Marty" Bowen of Council Bluffs.
Survivors include one daughter, Kate of Inverness, Calif.; two sons, Tom, and wife, Ruth, of Essex, Mass., and George and wife, Janelle, of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Jeremy, Yara, Logan and Quin; one sister, Eleanor "Ellie" Butler and husband, William "Bill," of White Bear Lake, Minn.
Memorials may be offered to the McClain Scholarship Endowment Funds at either Coe College or Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids or the Cedar Rapids First Presbyterian Church Building fund.
