In Memory: Lee E. Gittins

Lee Eugene Gittins, 78, of Council Bluffs died June 2 at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.

He was born February 7, 1924 in Council Bluffs to Lee Morris Gittins and Helen Charles. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a switchman for the Union Pacific railroad where he worked for 40 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Eagles FOE No. 104 and Council Bluffs Senior Center.

Mr. Gittins and his wife, Gloria (Kifer), were married 25 years.

Survivors in addition to his wife include one daughter, Bernice Mace of Council Bluffs; five sons, Robert of Shelby, Gary of Neola, LeRoy of Council Bluffs, David of Forsyth, Missouri, and Don of Omaha; mother, Helen Gittins, of Council Bluffs; one sister, Dorothy Tiarks, of Underwood; one stepdaughter, Diana Yates, of Omaha; two step-sons. Donald McDermott of Omaha and David Phillips of Council Bluffs; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation with the family was held Tuesday evening at McCurdy Funeral Home. The Funeral was held Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ronald Breese of River of Live Church officiating. Burial was in Ridgewood Mausoleum.
