In Memory: Myrtle M. Thomas
The funeral for Myrtle Mae Thomas, 100, of Longview Home in Missouri Valley was held Wednesday at 1 P.M. at Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley.
Mrs. Thomas died May 3 at the home.
She was born May 30, 1901, in Underwood to William B. Currie and Mae J. Watkins Currie. She was a resident of Harrison County since 1918. She was a homemaker and a special education teacher. She was presented a graduated degree in education on August 17, 2001, at the University of Nebraska-Omaha commencement.
She taught for 20 years, retiring in May 1970. She was a member of the Retired Teachers of Harrison County, AARP, Eastern Star, Business and Professional Women’s Club, Glenwood Garden Club, National Federation of Garden Clubs, and O.T.O. club.
Additionally she was a Master Flower Judge, Director of District VII of Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa, and president of Thomas Farms.
Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Chester O., her son, Glen W., and daughters, Fay Elizabeth Thomas and Frances Mae Abbod.
Survivors include three daughters, Marjorie C. Tripp of Neola, L. Janice Mart, of Des Moines and Pauline V. Fastner of Warsaw, MO; 12 grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation with the family was held Tuesday evening at the chapel. Burial was in Grange Cemetery in rural Honey Creek.
