In Memory: Ben F. Larison

Ben F. Larison, 82, of Missouri Valley died June 7 at the Longview Care Center in Missouri Valley.

He was born July 19, 1919, in Mondamin to Chester H. and Anna (Block) Larison. He attended Fair Oaks Country School and graduated with honors from the Mondamin High School in 1937. He was a member of the high school orchestra, men’s chorus and men’s sextet. He was a member of 4-H in his teen years and earned a trip to Iowa 4-H Convention at Ames with his demonstration team. He worked on farms and with a construction company several years after graduation. He farmed in the Raglan Township until he retired in 1985. He also lived in Mondamin. He entered the Longview Care Center in 1998.

Mr. Larison was preceded in death by his first wife, Clara (Vauble), in 1985 and his second wife, Helen (Hammer), in 2002. He was also preceded in death by his infant son, Steven, and son, Ronald.

Survivors include one son, Allen Larison, of Axis, Alabama; one step-daughter, Delores Roden, of Little Sioux; three stepson, Jeremy and Matt Johnson of Axis, Alabama, and Larry Hammer of Modale; three sisters, Donna Schutt of Exira, Dorothy Iwe4n of Persia and Dora Sorenson of Lincoln, Nebraska; two brothers, Robert C. and wife, Margaret, of Mondamin and Thomas J. and wife, Imogene, of Mondamin; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A prayer service was held on Sunday at the Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley. Visitation with the family followed with a prayer service.

The funeral was held Monday morning at Zion Lutheran Church in Magnolia with the Rev. Werner F. Wetzstein officiating. Burial was in the Magnolia Cemetery, followed by lunch and fellowship at the Zion Lutheran Church Social Hall.
