Leona A. Heaps

The funeral for Leona A. Heaps, 91, of Council Bluffs will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Dodge Memorial Church, 3200 Avenue C, with a brunch immediately following the service at the church's fellowship hall.

Mrs. Heaps died Jan. 20 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

She was born Jan. 12, 1912, in Cortland, Neb., to William H. and Helena (Hochheim) Givens. She moved to Council Bluffs in 1940. She was a 1929 graduate of Cortland High School and attended Doane College. She graduated from Peru State College in 1933. Retired School Teacher. She taught in Cortland, Falls City, Neb., and Omaha before teaching at Abraham Lincoln High in Council Bluffs for 11 years. She retired in 1974. She was a member of Dodge Memorial Church; Council Bluffs Retired Teachers Association; and alumni of Doan College and Peru State College.

Mrs. Heaps was preceded in death by her husband, Rex, on Aug. 3, 1992. They were married June 18, 1938.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice Hrasky and husband, Frank, of Omaha and Joyce Miller of Corning, Calif.; two sons, Bill and wife, Josephine, of Dunlap and Charles and wife, Merrily, of Nevada City, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be Friday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Chapel. Burial will be Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Lincoln, Neb.

Memorials may be offered to the Council Bluffs Public Library Homebound Delivery Department or American Heart Association.
