In Memory: Rev. Dr. Richard Kapfer

The Rev. Dr. Richard Kapfer, 64, of Ames died January 12. His funeral was held January 15 at Memorial Lutheran Church in Ames, with burial in Alden. Dr. Kapfer was a former pastor of Memorial Lutheran Church, and for the past 13 years was president of the Iowa District West, of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lois (Lettow) Kapfer of Ames; son Tom and Linda Kapfer of Libertyville, IL; daughter Hilary and Jeffery Smedsrud of Minneapolis; five grandchildren; mother Viola (Martens) Kapfer and sister Janice and Allan Lange, all of Broomfield, CO; brother Mark and Becky Kapfer of Bettendorf; and sister-in-law Dr. Miriam Kapfer of Arlington Heights, IL.

Among other relatives attending the visitation and funeral were Melvin and Ellen Blumer, and Elvin and Jane Steenbock of Persia; Greg and Lorna Steenbock of Ida Grove; Alvin and Dorothy Martins, Dan Martens, and Jim and Cathy Martens, all of Minden; Jim Martens of Ames; Carolyn Schrader of Omaha; Paul Kapfer of Washington, D.C.; and Dr. Stephanie Kapfer of San Diego.

His grandparents, Hans and Emma Martens, formerly of Shelby, his father Joseph Kapfer, and twin brother Phillip Kapfer preceded Dr. Kapfer in death.
